About Indian Trail, NC | Indian Trail Web Design

Indian Trail, NC, is one of the fastest growing communities in North Carolina. Indian Trail began as an outpost on a 17th Century trading route called the "Indian trail" that ran between Petersburg, Va to the Waxhaw Indian settlement. In 1874, a railroad called the Seaboard Railroad was built between the cities Charlotte, North Carolina and Monroe, North Carolina. The railroad, which runs through the town, brought prosperity to the town. Indian Trail was later incorporated as a town in 1907. It is now quickly becoming the largest municipality in Union County. As of the census of 2000, there were 11,905 people, 4,299 households, and 3,400 families residing in the town.

Indian Trail celebrated its centennial in 2007.

Located just a few miles outside of Charlotte, NC, Indian Trail is known for its quality Union County schools and within easy reach of most of the amenities that larger cities offer. The town has two high schools, two middle schools, and four elementary schools. The high schools are Sun Valley High School and Porter Ridge High School. The middle schools are Sun Valley Middle School and Porter Ridge Middle School. The elementary schools are Indian Trail Elementary School, Shiloh Elementary School, Sardis Elementary School and Porter Ridge Elementary School.

One of the lesser known facts about Indian Trail is its being home to the late Fred Kirby of the Little Rascals and Tweetsie Railroad fame.
