About Concord, NC | Concord / Kannapolis Web Design

Concord, NC, had a total population in 2000 of 55,977. As recently as 2004, Concord was winner of the All-American City Award and is considered one of the larger suburbs of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Concord is known to NASCAR racing fans as home to Lowe's Motor Speedway, a NASCAR Research and Development Office; and several professional race teams, including Hendrick Motorsports, Roush Fenway Racing, and Chip Ganassi Racing.

Concord, NC is also home to Concord Mills, a 1.4 million square foot shopping mall located in Cabarrus County, just a few hundred feet from the Mecklenburg County border, and about 12 miles (19 km) from downtown Charlotte. It is North Carolina's largest tourist attraction, attracting 17.6 million visitors in 2005. The mall is located about a mile from Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Other attractions include Concord Motorsport Park, consisting of two tracks: a 1/2 mile tri-oval and a 1/4 mile oval. The tri-oval seats 8,500 fans with room for 28 RVs, the 1/4 mile track seats 2,050. Additionally, the track has several air conditioned suites located behind the main grandstand. CMP is home to several racing series including the Whelen All-American Series. The track is active as a site for the filming of several television commercials, television shows and music videos.

Barber-Scotia College is a historically black college founded as Scotia Seminary in 1867 by the Reverend Luke Dorland.

Kannapolis, NC is located 30 miles north of Charlotte, North Carolina along the I-85 corridor. The city covers 31 square miles and has a population of 39,000. The $1.5 billion NC Research Campus is well under construction with seven university partners and large multi-national firms like PPD calling the Campus home.
